Anyone who clings to the historically untrue -- and thoroughly immoral -- doctrine that `violence never settles anything' I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. - Robert Heinlein |

| | Linkin Park - From the Inside | ] | I really, really need to find a full-time job after this co-op, or at least manage to dig up enough money to see a bunch of doctors. I've got a couple of problems I really should see someone about. Although I think one would be better solved by a dentist. After I had a root canal done at a dental clinic 2 years ago, my bite has been all fucked up. Apparently, the resident I had do the job backfilled the tooth a little too much. Needless to say, my jaw is nearly always in pain, and I get this incessant clicking now. :-(
Curse you money! |

[May. 2nd, 2003|03:15 pm] |
Finally got something I'd expected MONTHS ago. Social Services finally got around to sending me a court summons for child support. Get this though, the court date is AFTER Tracy and I get married.
I'm sure I'm going to get the run around when trying to call these people and tell them the whole thing is pointless. |

[Mar. 5th, 2003|01:27 pm] |
An A and 2 B's. Not too shabby.
I expected B's in projects (last minute design overhauls will do that to you) and in foundations, since I didn't give a damn about that course. It was only filler anyways. The big surprise was the A in philosophy. I've always like philosophy, but I was the person no one ever agreed with in years ago so I kinda said "screw it". Apparently I'm writing a hell of a lot better now than I did then.
Anyways, one quarter left, then I walk. Crazy to think that I've been going here for the past five years now. I have two crap courses left and a thesis and I'm completely done. While I'd love to finish my thesis this coming quarter, it'd take an act of god for that to happen. However, I can't afford to stay here any more than this coming quarter, which means I'll probably be finishing up my thesis where ever I get a job and running back to Rochester to defend it when the time comes.
I'm so tired of school, it'll be nice to actually be making money, and decent cash at that. I still really have to find a job, although I'm technically "on leave" from the last place I co-op'd at and was told if I wanted to come back they'd be more than happy to take me. That is nice, but that's not really what I want to do for a living. Worst case, I figure I work there a few years while padding my resume and looking for what I really want to do. It all comes down to the fact that I need money and insurance that doesn't suck. :)
Guess I should probably get those resumes out now... |

| | Disturbed - The Game | ] | It really helps not to break something more while you're trying to fix it.
So yeah, Tracy's headlight burned out and needed to be replaced over the holiday. Turns out that you have to replace the entire headlight and reflector assembly and not just screw in a new bulb. Well, in the process of taking the burned out set out, Tracy's father thought it would be a good idea to bend a whole crapload of stuff and force it out, rather than do the intelligent thing and just unscrew the whole assembly and then take it out. So, when I was trying to put in the new piece today, I found out that he'd broken a piece of it, and bent it in such a way that you can't take it off the right way anymore. To make a long story short, one broken tool and an hour later, and I managed to jury-rig the whole thing together. Eventually, I'll have to replace the entire goddamned assembly. |

So yeah, first day of class was interesting. I'm taking a philosphy class as a free elective, and I like the professor. The subject matter is the philosophy of technology, so I think I'm all set. The reading for today was actually interesting too, and that's pretty damned surprising.
In other news, I'm really tired of being alone here. |

| Well, that takes the cake for treacherous roads... |
[Dec. 2nd, 2002|02:11 am] |
A sub 10 minute drive just took me nearly a half an hour.
3 inches of unplowed snow on the roads when the temperature is nearly 32 degrees is a recipe for disaster. Snow on top of a layer of ice and water, I just love it. :)
I passed (or was passed) by several rather bent up cars of people who'd gone off the road and smacked something. That has to really suck. With their examples, I drove extra careful, which is pretty hard to do when you're in the grips of an adrenaline rush. Yeah, the roads are just that bad right now. Having pure adrenaline in your veins for a half an hour makes you damned jumpy. It's been 20 minutes since I was in the car and I'm still jumpy as hell.
Oh well, class tommorrow. Maybe. Depends on how crappy the roads are in the morning. 6 inches by morning, that should be fun. |

Here's a question for anyone who's actually played it before... is it just me or is it about half the time that your earned JP isn't actually accumulated for the job you are? I mean, I love just getting someone to a new job and finding they already have 400 points in it but, um... it would have been nice to get those points in something I was at the time I got them. :p |

If you haven't seen the new Harry Potter because you weren't sure you wanted to... go see it. It isn't often that a sequel is better than the original, and that's exactly what happened here. Long movie, nearly 3 hours, but I didn't even really notice. Didn't check my watch until the credits. :) |
